Critical Quotes

"Plucks the strings of his bass fiddle with assurance and leadership....manages to preserve the off-center feel of his music, much to the credit of his skewed jazz compositions."
--The GAVIN Report

"Picture Parker and Gillespie mixing it up with Mingus, Hendrix and Zappa - with John Cage as referee. It's Challenging exploratory jazz..."
--The Charlotte Observer

"Matt Kendrick's performance made you hear and see things beyond the notes and musicians themselves. By vividly stirring your imagination, it linked music and visual art...Perhaps the communication of this offbeat vision is Mr. Kendrick's strongest asset... He kept expressive dreams, youthful enthusiasm and the tug of musical structure in perfect focus, perfect balance."
--The Raleigh News and Observer

"The tune featured a smoky, bluesy, round midnight bass line and some stunning arco playing by Kendrick... Kendrick, an extraordinarily talented bassman-composer."
--Durham Herald Sun

"This Carolina jazz quintet once had a gig backing up seven paintings at an art musuem. Really. Considering that, I'd have to say their music is essentiallly expressionist although tempered by touches post-modern neoclassicism."
--Bass Player Magazine
